The Shmup of DeathThe Shmup of Death was my entry for a Shmup competition held by the SJSU Game Development Club in Spring 2009. Since I found this genre rather uninspiring, I teamed up with another student, who helped with the game design, gameplay, and some last-minute graphics. The game has enemies that follow certain paths, turrets, spawners, and a boss with multiple attack modes. The game won first place! ![]() ![]() The game was not a major programming feat - the explosion effect was even borrowed from UltraBreaker - and I've made larger games in FreeBasic (this was 1200 lines), but it was a challenge to get a good mix of enemies, and dynamically generated levels. Just making a complete game by the deadline was a challenge. Things were a bit rushed, so music and SFX were borrowed from other games I made (and were borrowed for those games, too). Game controls: arrow keys, shift, z, and x. The levels continue indefinitely, where each level ends with a boss, and the gameplay should be self-explanatory. This game is mentioned here: The game can be downloaded here: — Kristopher Windsor (August 2, 2009) Comments |
